Three-dimensional | Sculpture | Papier-mache
June 2024. Elections for the European Parliament.
And still the same questions remain:
How do we see the future of the European Union?
Which direction will we choose as citizens?
With this artwork, I give shape to that moment of uncertainty, hope,
and shared responsibility.
We stand at a crossroads: what will it be? Renewal or decline?
The tree growing from the hands is half barren and half in bloom.
It symbolizes the choices we make — what may flourish, and what may fade.
The sculpture is made of papier-mâché and paper pulp, using pages from the Dutch financial newspaper *Het Financieele Dagblad*, a fitting reference to the economic and social debates that constantly surround Europe.
The branches are crafted from silver wire and paper, adorned with small Swarovski crystals that hint at fragility, value, and the possibility of new light.
Europe lies in our hands.
What we nurture can bloom.
What we neglect may wither.
